When the drought runs too long, a village of coyotes grows desperate. An old coyote cry says a gift of silver and turquoise brought to the top of Arizuma mountain will bring skywater. Carol is the only adult without pups, so she reluctantly takes on the challenge to climb the mountain with the village's last riches. She understands little about the old magic she's tasked to summon, leaving her having to trust the absent-minded and disconnected ringtail who joins her on her journey.

Scene Description

Waking up from a nap early in her trip up Arizuma mountain, Caroline discovers Milton rummaging through her bag. She immediately pegs the ringtail as being a thief, even though he doesn't run when the coyote wakes up. As a lonely mountain shaman, Milton is delighted at finding a new muzzle, but can't bring himself to wake up the sleeping coyote. To him, the bag is a way to learn more about the mountain's new guest. And a way to get some delicious raisins.

                                                        [WAKING UP] Hey. Hey! Hey, drop that!                                                    

                                                        Milton                                                    

                                                        I’m not done looking.                                                    

                                                        Caroline                                                    

                                                        Yes, you are! Give it back!                                                    

                                                        Milton                                                    

                                                        What happened to ‘drop it’?                                                    

                                                        Caroline                                                    

                                                        [GRABS BAG] What did you take?                                                    

                                                        Milton                                                    

                                                        I was just looking. Wasn’t anything worth taking anyway. Trail mix without raisins? What’s the point?                                                    

                                                        Caroline                                                    

                                                        It did have raisins!                                                    

                                                        Milton                                                    

                                                        Mostly looking. Is that silver?                                                    

                                                        Caroline                                                    

                                                        No, it’s not.                                                    

                                                        Milton                                                    

                                                        Are you crazy? You can’t bring silver onto Arizuma mountain! Get rid of it!                                                    

                                                        Caroline                                                    

                                                        Hey! What’s wrong with you?                                                    

                                                        Milton                                                    

                                                        What’s a coyote even doing with silver? Is that from the playa? Where did you get it?                                                    

                                                        Caroline                                                    

                                                        That’s none of your business. Now get your tail out of my way!                                                    

                                                        Milton                                                    

                                                        No, no, no! Don’t go that way! That’ll take you straight to the top!                                                    

                                                        Caroline                                                    

                                                        That's where I’m headed, raccoon-brain.                                                    

                                                        Milton                                                    

                                                        With silver? No, you can’t! If the Gila dragon sees it, he’ll make the skies dark with rage!                                                    

                                                        Caroline                                                    

                                                        [PAUSE] And bring skywater?                                                    

                                                        Milton                                                    

                                                        Oceans of skywater! [PAUSE] Hey, where are you going?
